Location: Brighton
Salary: Circa £35,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm (Term time only)
Reporting to: Deputy Head
Protocol are working with a non-maintained specialist provision dedicated to supporting autistic individuals, many of whom also have learning disabilities and co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy, sensory impairments, or mental health needs. Role Purpose: We are seeking an Interim Teacher of Functional Skills (Maths) to deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Functional Skills Mathematics from Entry 1 to Level 2. The successful candidate will employ innovative teaching methods to support learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and complex needs, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Functional Skills Mathematics lessons from Entry 1 to Level 2, including Pre-Entry Mathematics.
- Raise standards of learner attainment and monitor progress.
- Ensure equal access to the curriculum through effective scaffolding, differentiation, and resource deployment.
- Support the development of learners’ independence and employability skills.
- Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to personalize learning and overcome barriers.
- Set and monitor subject targets for mathematics.
- Maintain a calm and orderly learning environment.
- Promote learners’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.
- Engage in continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities.
Assessment and Reporting:
- Conduct initial baseline assessments and track learner progress.
- Maintain up-to-date records of learners’ work and portfolios.
- Use organizational MIS systems to verify and monitor learner progress.
- Contribute to learners’ Annual Reviews and Individual Educational Plans (IEPs).
Expectations:
- Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Engage in supervision and annual performance reviews.
- Maintain confidentiality and data protection standards.
Person Specification:
- Qualified teacher (QTS/QTLS/Cert.ED/PGCE).
- Excellent classroom practitioner with experience teaching learners from Pre-Entry to Level 2.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and learners with ASC and complex needs.
- Knowledge of enhancing learners’ social and personal development.
